Serenity
She sat atop the fallen tree, away from the boisterous laughter and merriment of the Su Muer camp. She was not sure on how long the truce would last, but relieved that her soldiers can finally rest for a while. Finally, war would be over soon.
She closed her eyes and feel the cold night wind blew in her skin. Somehow its calmness reminded her of home. Its sweet smell of the lush green bamboo forest, and the beautiful lake shore, where they used to play when they were younger, she opened her eyes and disappointingly saw an endless barren plains and distant mountains.
It’s been almost seven years since she returned. Will it be the same home a she remembered? She gave out a hopeless sigh.
“Enjoying your solitude, Meili?”
A large white tiger appeared from darkness behind her.
“You’re supposed to be in the camp, MetalFang.” She said calmly. The faint scent of alcohol lingered as the tiger leaped towards the tree she where she sat. With a flash of light the tiger’s true form appeared. A large tiger faced Yaoshu sat crossed-legged beside her. Its armor, glowing in purple light, shines eerily in the darkness.
“Naaahhhhh!!! Those bits can take care of themselves! We trained them well didn’t we?”
Indeed he was quite drunk.
“So, what are you going to do now?” The Yaoshu said after the uncomfortable silence. He stretched his arms and gave out a loud yawn.
“I don’t know yet,” She answered quickly, and truthfully. She had known him for years and definitely, he won’t remember anything that happened, or might happen, when that alcohol gets in his system. She smiled. A confidant like him is much appreciated, especially in this point in time.
“I already sent someone to bring message back home, I won’t be returning soon,” She paused, “I just hope Lien doesn’t take this…I mean she’s still my little sister. I’m still worried on what would she’d do if she found out that…”
MetalFang burst out in a raucous laugh which made Meili winced and held her crossbow tightly beside her.
“And you send him! That Ryu,“ he chuckled. “You really need to worry!”
“Captain! Captain!"
She was about to impale her arrows on the irritating overgrown cat when the messenger arrives. A young Yaojing, panting heavily, with her fox tail swayed anxiously behind her back.
She stood up.

The Yaojing respectfully bowed then transformed herself into a fox. It pranced hastily the direction of the camp.
“But seriously,” The Yaoshu stopped laughing and changed his tone,” Why choose him?”
Meili arched her back and a pair of bright golden wings appeared behind her.
”He can do something you won’t.”
She flew, leaving behind the MetalFang with his disgruntled face
Fading...
Floating…Drifting…
The warmth
is coming in…
She opened her eyes and saw him, the blue eyed stranger, carrying her in his arms as they approached the sandy shore.
Who
are you?
She shivered.
Cold.
She felt his arms around her. His calm voice seemed like a lullaby.
“I’ll
protect you.”
She felt her body become numb and slowly fades into the darkness.
