Chapter 3

Untimely Mischap

Aunt Cai Yi five more minutes...

The sun greeted her as it warm rays fell over her pale face. The thick blanket brushed gently against her bare skin. She was not in her own room, Lien realized as she breathed in. Her senses were filled will the pleasant scent of pine woods and peach blossoms, unlikely to her room which is crammed with piles of aged scrolls and moldering books of her late mother. It doesn’t bother her how the place smell, she was more concerned on the warm and heavy thing that was leaning against her

Slowly, she opened her eyes and saw the most serene face she ever saw right next to her, she awed. She watched as the strands of his dark hair fall on his lean face as he breathed peacefully while he slept. She tried not to convince herself that she died on that lake, that she was in heaven, and that, this beautiful stranger beside her was an angel.

Definitely she has been surrounded by many good-looking men in their village, but she didn’t even care to look at them twice. Wingkins have been known for their beauty, and also for their pride and haughtiness, even their males is no exception. Seeing them with their blonde ponytails and full powered faces made her cringe.

Then she noticed it. He has no wings on the sides of his head. The clearly visible broad muscled shoulder and chest, marred by several battle scars, convinced her that he was not a celestial entity, but a human, a Wuxia, and not her kind. Or maybe he is.

Is he wearing anything?

What am I doing here? Who is he? Why is he lying naked beside me? He did something to me, did he? And why am I...? I am…

Lien jostled him away, she muttered an ancient spell rapidly and the swift strong wind wafted the then sleeping human, knocking him on the nearby tree.

Ryu looked distraught and confused. First, he was just awoken by a strong current that whack him on a tree. Second, this girl held a translucent bow that aimed directly unto him. A particular skill only known by the Wingkin healers, he thought.

“Don’t come near me!” she shouted, keeping her back arched to prevent the blanket that covered her well gifted chest from dropping.

He sensed a sheer panic and fright. Damn, he definitely knew that this could happen. Waking up naked and with an almost undressed man would absolutely make any girl to freak out. Well at least this one did. The others would just simply smile and walk up from his bed.

“Look, I’m sorry I took your clothes off. You’re… feverish and…” how could he lose those words. The cold morning air that touched his sweating skin was not helping him, and the fact that he was only wearing the white boxers that covered his essentials.

“I said don’t!” the girl release the feather arrow from her bow.

Swiftly, he dodged down and the white shining feather crashed into to the tree behind him, leaving a small gaping hole to its bark. What now? He watched her left hand glowed with a bluish light. Her lips moved and spoke an almost unintelligible spell as her fierce crimson eyes locked on his.

“Toast,” he silently whispered. Literally toast, he definitely knew, he had been struck down several times with that particular skill on the battlefield, but with his armor on, and barely survived. Those lighting burns he suffered stayed a week before it was completely healed. This one would surely hurt more.

As if the wind appeared beneath his feet, he quickly dashed to her direction and caught the glowing left hand before the girl complete the lighting spell. Half stunned by the sudden action, the blanket she was holding fell down to her waist.

            “Wonderful.” he said to himself.
